Welcome To My Blog!

I'm Melinda Nicci - Founder and CEO of Baby2Body, and a mom of two.

This blog has been a dream of mine for a while, and I'm so glad it's finally here. This is a place to find out more about Baby2Body, learn about my favourite products and brands, and discover advice, tips and tricks for a healthy mind, a healthy body, and a healthy baby.

I thought a good place to start would be to tell you a bit about my personal journey through pregnancy, motherhood, finding my strengths as an entrepreneur, and creating a company that embodies everything I'm passionate about: health, wellness, fitness, feeling empowered, and being a mother.

One of the first things I did when I found out I was pregnant was seek resources on staying active. I was an athlete and fitness was a huge part of my lifestyle and my identity. However, I quickly came to realize that there was so much negativity around the subject, and the general advice I was received was "take it easy" and "stay on the sofa". Basically, I was told that I could leave my active, athletic days in the past. That answer didn't suit me, and I knew in my gut that it wasn't the healthy route. So, I didn't listen to what was out there, and instead decided to seek out the truth for myself and find a way to stay safely strong and active during pregnancy.

Now this was 20 years ago, but sadly the rhetoric around staying fit during and after pregnancy hasn't changed much; there's still a stigma around maintaining an active lifestyle, and many people still believe maintaining a workout routine is harmful to baby. But here's the thing, extensive research has shown that the exact opposite is true - maintaining a safe, active fitness routine is incredibly healthy for you and your baby. That's why I set out to create a company to help women who are still asking the same questions I did, and providing them with the answers and information they want and need to hear.

The problem is, women today still face judgment and unclear answers when it comes to staying fit during pregnancy, and that's what Baby2Body is setting out to change. We're changing the dialogue around what it means to be healthy in pregnancy, and empowering women to take their health into their own hands. I created Baby2Body in late 2014 as a digital content resource that focuses on a woman's wellbeing, fitness, nutrition, and beauty concerns during pregnancy and early motherhood. Our personalized guide is complete with daily insights into her baby's growth and development, as well as tips focused on her, so she can stay healthy, be happy, and feel amazing.

Of course, as a professional pre and postnatal fitness trainer, the concept of of safe and effective exercise is at the forefront of my focus, and that comes through in the Baby2Body experience. But physical fitness isn't just about the maintaining a certain look or getting back into your pre-pregnancy skinny jeans as quickly as possible - it's much more than that. It's about empowerment and strength - and this is where I come in with my Sport Psychologist hat on. It's about being able to reduce pregnancy complications, to help your body feel as good as it can, to give your baby a head start in his or her future health profile, and to prepare yourself physically and mentally for every new challenge that motherhood throws at you.

My journey so far with Baby2Body has been incredible. It's been rewarding, challenging, exciting, frustrating and inspiring, all at the same time. I think the only other time I've experienced so many emotions at once was a new mom - so I guess it's fitting. My two kids are nearly grown, with one out of University, and the other soon to start - but in some ways it feels like I still have a baby, like I'm raising something incredibly important to me. I think I feel that way because I love what it is I do, and I love what it is I've created. Being a mom is the one of the most demanding and draining jobs in the world, but it never feels like a job because it's part of you, and your love of being a mom washes over all of the stuff that makes it tough. If I can share one piece of advice with you all it's to search for that in your professional life as well - do something you love for a living, and you'll never work a day in your life. I absolutely love what I'm doing right now, so it doesn't feel like work, it feels like life lived to the fullest.
